RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

Thanks guys -
I took the switch apart, cleaned it and re-adjusted the thermal breaker and now it works a-ok.
I'm going to buy a spare to have around though.
I'm not super enthused with the design of it, but it works. The most surprising thing was the amount of relay's and NO relay on the 12V power going thru the switch. The 12V also goes thru the smart steering wheel wiring harness, which since I don't have the smart wheel - it's got just a loop thru connector.
I can't say how much I appreciate your help and being able to find wiring diagrams online!!
Now off to work on the other tweek things that need help on the MH.

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

Bad headlight switch...
so now the question is how do I REMOVE it?
I got it loose, but the rod that protrudes out has a crimped on round thing that holds the plastic knob... so I can't back it out unless I cut off the rod or??
I'm hoping that the local dealer has a switch in stock!

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

I downloaded a newer version of the Freightliner schematic, and if it's accurate (I hope so) then it looks like the 12V power for the headlights goes thru the switch. The relays are only for high/low beam selection.
The fog lights track off the low beams.
The 12v power goes thru all the smart wheel connectors which are just jumpers, as the MH does not have the smart wheel. There is also the ICC flash circuit which does not exist. (again a function of the smart wheel)
I'm drawing back into the headlight switch, so back out to test that.

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

The lights don't work now... it's a really weird problem.
I have verified the following:
headlights are not burnt out
fuses are good
all parking/turnsignals/brake/reverse lights work perfect
fog lights are not burnt out
All the ground connections under the dash appear to be good.
The switch is??

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

I'm 99% sure it was a loose wire on the headlight switch. it works now!
Thanks all for your input.

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

ok - all the lights work now, but i'm not sure what I did to make them work.
The relay's and fuses look just fine. I started to get into the headlight switch and that is when they started working again.
I'm going to pull it out and look into it more ...

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

Ok - news update -
Got the coach started up - so full power to everything and it's still the same story.
Parking lights, interior dash work fine, but nothing to the headlights, fog lights or high beams.
They did ALL work just a few days ago. I know all of them are not burned out...

RE: Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

It's a freightliner chassis. I am reviewing the chassis electrical diagrams now.
I know the headlights do/can work, but they aren't right now. I'll go out and check the ignition switch/circuit breakers and report back.
Both the headlights (low and high beam) and the fog lights and the dash illumination for the high beam don't work.

Headlights not working? - Itasca horizon

Hey all,
please help me out here...
I was out in the RV last night and could not get the head or fog lights to turn on. All the parking lights and dash lights worked fine, and the dimmer for the interior dash lights worked.
Does the ignition key need to be on to have the headlights to work or?
This is a new to me RV and I plan to head out soon and need headlights!

RE: NADA and Used Class A's

PPL is a bit overpriced for today's market IMHO. I was down there a few weeks ago, and they were very nice people.
I just bought a private party coach for about 80% of low NADA retail with no options checked.
It is a 2002 Itasca Horizon 39QD with a low retail of about $68K. I paid $55K.
68K x 80% = $54.4K
I'm happy and it's a one owner nice condition coach.
Good luck!

RE: 2002 Itasca Horizon 39QD - questions and opinions

The TDI only has 36K miles, so it's good for a while, but I do know about the belt and it being an interference engine.

RE: Buying a Class A, should I sell the popup?

69RR -
I brought the kids on the power tour! Along with the wife and a few friends.
My GTO got upto 25.3MPG on the HRPT. I was pretty much averaging 18-22MPG with the car and the times I went drag racing and driving like a nut I got about 11-12MPG.
It's great to have a modern motor in a classic car that handles excellent. I'm happy!

RE: 2002 Itasca Horizon 39QD - questions and opinions

it's the 1x1 peel & stick linonliumn floor tiles. I'm actually glad it's not ceramic tile, as the DW didn't want tile. Stuff that drops breaks and it's heavier.
Now it's time to get that thing cleaned up and ready for some adventure!
BTW - I've got customized plates coming for it! :)

RE: Buying a Class A, should I sell the popup?

I didn't get much flack at all... even though the car WAS numbers matching... :)
Most people really liked the car and thought the implementation was cool. The new yorkers really liked the satin paint.
I was planning to put a hitch on the GTO so I could pull the PUP around... :)
